Professor Kenichi Ohno

Dr. Kenichi Ohno is a professor of Economics at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Tokyo and the Research Director of Vietnam Development Forum (VDF). Professor Ohno has been working on Vietnam's development issues for more than 10 years. He published various articles, papers, and books on international trade, aid management, and industrial development strategies in developing countries. He was a recipient of Suntory Prize for Social Sciences and Humanity, and Osagari Jiro Award for Critical Works in 2001 for the book Globalization of Developing Countries. He holds a Ph.D degree in Economics from Stanford University.

Professor Ho Tu Bao

Dr. Ho Tu Bao is a professor of the School of Knowledge Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). He received degrees of Ph.D. from Pierre and Marie Curie University, Paris (1987), and of Habilitation from Paris Dauphine University (1998), both in Computer Science. He was a Ph.D. candidate (1983-1987) at INRIA (the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control, France), and a visiting fellow (1992) at Wisconsin-Madison University (USA). Before joining School of Knowledge Science in 1998, he was an associate professor (1991) at the Institute of Information Technology, Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), and a visiting associate professor (1993-1997) at the School of Information Science of JAIST.

Mr. Mac Quang Huy

Mr. Mac Quang Huy has 11 years of experiences in accounting, finance, and investment banking, including nine years with KPMG (Vietnam and UK, 1996-2005), one of the four largest accounting firms, and two years in asset and liability management with Lehman Brothers Inc, Japan (2005 to date), one of the five largest Wall Street firms. At KPMG Vietnam, he was a Senior Manager in charge of auditing and consulting clients in the financial sector, which allowed him to gain extensive knowledge of Vietnam’s financial sector and capital market. He is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a CPA of Vietnam. He has recently earned a MBA degree from Herriot Watt University (UK). He was a member of working group to compile Vietnamese Accounting Standards under the Ministry of Finance. He has worked in a multi-cultural environment, including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, England, and Japan.

Mr. Doan Hong Quan

Mr. Doan Hong Quan is a retail banking expert at the Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank). During four-year working experience at the Private Banking Department, Mr. Quan has actively participated in the bank’s innovation programs sponsored by the World Bank. Mr. Quan also worked as a teaching assistant for Hanoi School of Business in Advanced Training Project with the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (Agribank). Currently, Mr. Quan is a Japanese Development Scholarship Fellow and studying MBA in the International University of Japan (IUJ) with special interest in banking and financial market.

Ms. Pham Quynh Huong

Ms. Pham Quynh Huong is a researcher at the Department of Urban Sociology, Institute of Sociology of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS). Her research interests include urban poor; migration; community participation in urban planning, industrial pollution management, and water resources management; housing finance for low-income households; residents’ accessibility to the public services in urban areas; and reproductive health of the youth. She earned a master’s degree in population and social research from Mahidol University (Thailand).

Mr. Giang Thanh Long

Mr. Giang Thanh Long is a lecturer of the Faculty of Economics, National Economics University in Hanoi, and a researcher at VDF. His main research interests are social security, poverty, demographic changes, and pension reform, particularly in Vietnam. He has published various articles and research papers on these themes. He earned a master of public policy (MPP) degree from Hitotsubashi University (Japan). In 2005, he held a visiting research fellowship at the Oxford Institute of Ageing, the University of Oxford, to work on aging and pension reform in Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Danh Thang

Mr. Nguyen Danh Thang obtained Master degree at Yokohama National University in 2007. His major research is wind engineering. Before coming to Japan, he worked as a lecturer at Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. With excellent performances in both academic and social activities, he earned many prizes, such as One of 82 Representative Vietnamese Students in period 1998 – 2003, Advanced Youth of Ho Chi Minh City (2003), Star of January (2002)… Now he is a first year doctoral student at Yokohama National University.

Mr. Tran Van Giai Phong

Tran Van Giai Phong is a doctoral student of Kyoto University. He has been conducting research on environment, poverty and disaster linkages in developing countries, particularly in Viet Nam. Phong has more than five years working as a research consultant for several projects of the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and some ING Os in Viet Nam. He obtained his master degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Hawaii University, USA and his bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Architecture, Ho Chi Minh City. With his multidisciplinary background, he tries to promote an integrated approach in disaster risk management, which focuses not only on structural measures but also on non-structural measures. During his first year of Ph.D student, he has published three articles in three International Journals and presented his research findings in four international symposiums.

Mr. Yuuji Munehiro (Japan)

Mr. Yuji Munehiro is working for Chodai Co.,Ltd - the consultant working in Bridge Enginering field and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) field in Japan. During many-year working in ITS and transportation planning field, he has a lot of experience about this problem. His specialities are design and evaluation for AHS (Safe Driving Support System), especially analyzing vehicle behavior and human machine interface for safe driving. His presentation will describe about transportation situation in Vietnam cities now and solutions for it.

Mr. Il Ki Hong (Korea)

Mr. Il Ki Hong is a research worker of the Social System Research Institute. His major is civil engineering, with an emphasis on road safety audit, driver's behavior analysis, human reliability, and human machine interface. He graduated Bachelor of Engineering from Kumoh National Institute of Technology (Korea) in 1995 and worked in Dongkuku Steel Mill company as a safety engineer since 1997. He graduated Master of Engineering from Musashi Institute of Technology and now being a doctoral candidate at the same institute.

Dr. Phan Xuan Hieu

Dr. Phan Xuan Hieu is now a postdoctoral researcher at Graduate School of Information Sciences, Tohoku University. He got his M.s. degree in information systems at College of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNUH) in 2003 and Ph D degree at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in 2006, respectively. His current major research interests include Natural Language Processing and Web Data Analysis/Mining. His talk is going to cover hot topics of Web data analysis towards building more intelligent information systems on the Web ranging from Web search analysis, general and domain-specific knowledge discovery from online text, information trend detection and tracking, and information navigation for digital library.

Mr. Nguyen Vu Hung

Mr. Nguyen Vu Hung was born and raised in Vietnam. In 1998, he received Monbusho (now Monbukagakusho ) Scholarship and came to Japan to receive Computer Science education in Japanese. In 2006, he received a MS degree of the major. Since very first days in Japan, he has shown his interests in Linux and Free Open Source Software (FOSS). He has involved many FOSS projects and communities. Nguyen Vu Hung is now working in Tokyo on a project that is going to beat Google.

Dr. Vu Tuong Thuy

Dr. Vu Tuong Thuy is a research scientist of Grid Technology Research Center (GTRC), National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). He has been working on the development of Geo-IT technology and its applications to human-environment interaction, disaster mitigation and sustainable development. He has more than 10-years of research and teaching experiences in Vietnam, Thailand and Japan. He is currently coordinating the international research collaborations between GEO Grid project of GTRC and various Vietnam and Thailand research centers. He holds a Ph D degree in Geomatics from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.

Dr. Nguyen Van Quy Hung

Dr. N.V.Q. Hung was born in 1974. He received the B.E. degree in industrial automation from Hanoi University of Technology, Vietnam, in 1995. He received the M.S.degree in electrical engineering in 2000 and the Dr. Eng. degree in information aided technology in 2003, both from Toyota Technological Institute (TTI), Japan. From 2003-2005, he was with ACCESS CO., LTD, a global company (headquartered in Tokyo) providing leading technology for mobile appliances. Since 2005, he has been with Higashi Fuji Technical Research Center, Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan He is interested in control technologies (including adaptive control, network-based control, intelligent control) for robotic and mechatronic systems.
